FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Octapixx Worldwide Launches Game DivisionOffers services to Independent Developers and PublishersDecember 6, 2004 -- Octapixx Worldwide, a global distributor of fine television programming and ancillary rights, today announced the launch of their Game Division. The new group will focus on leveraging the synergy between years of experience in games, licensing, and film and television distribution. Octapixx Games will be headed up by Brian Gladman, recently released from DreamCatcher Games where he was Product Manager for all of DreamCatcher's front-line titles. Gladman was responsible for all facets of DreamCatcher Games' marketing and PR programs, including the hugely successful First Person Shooter, Painkiller, released this past April. Painkiller won several Editor's Choice awards, and has been selected as the tournament game for the $1,000,000 CyberAthlete Professional League 2005 World Tour. "The similarities between our entertainment industry's existing film and television business and the video-game sector are staggering," says Gladman, who will act as Vice President of Octapixx's Game Division. "Video games generated $13.9 billion in revenues in 2003, significantly more than the $9.2 billion generated by movie box office. The numbers are huge, but the film and television world is much more mature. There are certainly best-practices we can borrow and apply to the game business to make it more efficient. Right now, Independent Developers are signing bad deals because they don't have any options. We aim to change that." Leveraging the unique backgrounds and experience of its core staff and management, Octapixx will offer a wide range of services:
"There's chaos in the game industry now," continues Gladman. "The big, publicly traded publishers are buying up all the assets and licenses they can get their hands on, and we think it's causing creative stagnation. The only innovation in games today seems to be coming from independent studios and publishers. We want to foster that innovation and creativity, and make sure those games get made and sold in an environment that allows for sustainable growth." Octapixx is expected to announce its first batch of deals soon. For more information, visit www.octapixx.com/games, or contact games@octapixx.com.
